Estimated cost to run your electric shower
£0.40per day used
Uses 1.62 kWh on each day it's used (9,500 W × 0.17 h).
How it works: cost = power (kW) × hours used × price per kWh. Standing charges aren't included because you pay them whether or not the appliance is on.
Estimates only. Real consumption depends on the model, settings and how the appliance is used.

How electric shower electricity use is measured
An electric shower heats water instantly as it flows, so it draws its full rated power the whole time it's running at a hot setting. The rating (in kW) is usually printed on the unit or in the manual.
How to calculate your electric shower running cost
Cost = power (kW) × hours used × price per kWh
Example only: at 9,500 W for 0.17 hours, a electric shower would use about 1.62 kWh, costing around £0.40 at 25p per kWh. Used 7 days a week, that's roughly 589 kWh and £147.37 a year. Your own figures may be quite different.
Why actual usage varies
- Shower rating — a 10.5 kW shower uses more each minute than an 8.5 kW one.
- Length of shower — the single biggest factor you control.
- Temperature and flow settings.
- How many people shower each day.
Ways to reduce the cost
- Cut a couple of minutes off each shower.
- Use a slightly lower temperature setting.
- Use an eco setting if your shower has one.
- Fit a shower timer to keep track.
